Rosh Hashana occurs on the first and second days of the month of Tishrei. It translates as "head of the year" or "first of the year." It is known as the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashana is a time to begin introspection, looking back at the mistakes of the past year and planning the changes to make in the new year. The name "Rosh Hashana" is not used in the Bible to discuss this holiday. The Bible refers to the holiday as Yom Ha-Zikkaron (the day of remembrance) or Yom Teruah (the day of the sounding of the shofar).
The shofar - One of the most important observances of this holiday is blowing of the Shofar and hearing the sounding of the shofar in the synagogue. The shofar's sound is a call to repentance. Another popular observance on Rosh Hashana is the eating of apples dipped in honey, a symbol of our wish for a sweet new year. We also dip bread in honey, instead of the usual practice of sprinkling salt on it, for the same reason. The common greeting on Rosh Hashana is L'shanah tovah ("for a good year"). This is a shortening of "L'shanah tovah tikatev v'taihatem" or to women, "L'shanah tovah tikatevi v'taihatemi", which translates as "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year."

Shofar Collection All Shofars are Koser & made in Israel |
The Shofar carries with it a vast and important history, dating as far back as biblical times. According to the Mishna, two different forms of shofar were used in the Temples. The ibex horn, ornamented with gold, was sounded at New Year and during the Yovel Days. The ram's horn, with silver ornamentation, was sounded on fast days. Since shofars are a natural product, no two are exactly alike All images on this page are designed to provide general impression only. Variations in the coloring, size and shape of the shofar are acceptable.

Jumbo Natural Ram's Horn Shofars While normal "Classical" Shofars are straightend a the end to make the horn longer, these Ram's Horn Shofars are cut where the mouthpiece is the largest. This makes the mouthpiece as easy to blow as a flute. Even children and first time starter are able to get the most beautiful sound out of the Ram's Horn Shofar. Ram's Horn Shofars are available in various sizes |
 |
Polished Rams Horn shofars As these Shofars are natural rams horns, their sizes will vary, the terms used to indicate small, large, or extra large are dictated by the number of twists in the playable horn rather than overall length. |

Yemenite Shofars Yemenite Shofars are made from the horns of the African Kudu - an animal similar to an Antelope. Long and curved they are beautiful to look and and to hear. Each shofar is made in Israel and is easy to blow. The polished version has had all the natural ruggedness of the horn polished out to permit a shiny surface finish. Shofars are measured along the curve and may vary in length and color. |

Gemsbok Shofar The rare Gemsbok (Oryx gazella) is a kosher animal of the family of the antelopes. The horn is deep black and perfect to blow. It made with an "easy blow" mouthpiece. The beginner will immediately be able to produce two to three different tunes out of the horn, while someone more experienced will get up to eight different tunes out of this exceptional instrument. The shofar is fully polished and black in color. This shofar will make a great addition to your Shofar collection. This particular shofar is currently very limited in supply, as most are used as hunter's trophies. |
Sterling Silver Decorated Shofars The decorations that cover these shofars render them as non-kosher: These shofars serve as decorative pieces only! |
